Bespoke garden rooms and garden offices: what's involved
What the service is
We design and build garden rooms entirely ourselves, on site, to your exact specification. They're not supplied as kits or handed to another company to install. That means the size, shape, doors, windows and finish are designed for your garden and how you want to use the space.
Who it's for
People who work from home and need a proper office away from the house, families who need extra space without moving or extending, and anyone wanting a gym, studio, hobby room or somewhere to relax at the end of the garden.
When it makes sense
A garden room is worth considering when you're short of space indoors, when an extension would be too disruptive or expensive, or when you want a separate space that keeps work and home apart.
Why our approach matters
Because we also build patios, decking, paths and lawns, the garden room is planned as part of the garden rather than dropped into it. The base, access and surrounding landscaping are all handled by one team. One of our customers had a driveway, garden office, decking and garden borders built by us as one project.

What happens if it's left
Off-the-shelf buildings and poorly planned rooms often cause problems that are expensive to fix later.
A room that doesn't fit
Standard sizes rarely suit every garden. You can end up with wasted space, awkward access or a building that dominates the garden.
Weak foundations
A garden room on an inadequate base can move, letting in damp and causing doors and windows to stick.
A building that doesn't connect
Without a path, patio or deck, a garden room can be hard to reach in wet weather and look out of place.
Common mistakes we see
- ✕ Choosing a building from a catalogue before working out how the space will be used.
- ✕ Underestimating the base and groundwork needed.
- ✕ Forgetting about access, paths and how the room meets the rest of the garden.
- ✕ Using separate companies for the room and the landscaping around it.

Garden rooms in detail
Every garden room we build is designed around how it'll be used. Here are the common types and things to think about.
Garden offices
A garden office separates work from home life. We'll talk through desk space, natural light, storage and where you'll want sockets so the room works from day one.
Gyms and studios
Gyms and studios need space, ventilation and a floor that can handle the use. We'll plan the layout around what you'll be doing.
Living and relaxation spaces
Some customers want a quiet space to read, a games room or somewhere to entertain. Large doors opening onto a deck or patio can make the room feel part of the garden.
Base and positioning
Where the room sits affects light, privacy, access and how much groundwork is needed. We'll advise on the best position for your garden.
Surrounding landscaping
Paths, patios, decking and planting around a garden room make it easier to reach and help it sit naturally in the garden.
Thinking about how you'll use the room
Before any design is drawn up, we'll ask how you'll actually use the room day to day. An office used from 8 till 6 needs good light and a comfortable layout. A gym needs floor space and airflow. A family room may need wide doors that open onto a deck. Getting this right at the start means the finished room suits your routine, not just the space available.
Access during the build
Because we build the room on site rather than craning in a finished building, access is usually more flexible. We'll look at how materials can get into the garden and plan the work so your home and garden stay usable while the build goes on.
Garden rooms for businesses and schools
We work for commercial and educational customers as well as homeowners. A garden room can provide extra space for an office, a meeting room or a quiet area for learning. Talk to us about what you need and we'll explain what's possible on your site.
Getting started
You don't need a finished design before calling. Tell us what you want the room for, roughly where it might go and any limits on space, and Richard will take it from there on the visit.
A garden room as part of a wider project
Many customers add a garden room at the same time as other work: a new patio leading to it, decking in front of it, a lawn or borders around it. Because one team builds everything, the levels, paths and finishes are planned together and the room sits naturally in the finished garden.
